Are left-handed people more likely to have migraine?  It may seem like a strange question, but we all know that discussions over how left and right dominance influences the rest of our lives goes back thousands of years.

In 1982, a study came out of Harvard Medical School by Norman Geschwind and Peter Behan, testing the hypothesis that left-handed people not only had more migraine attacks, but also immune disease and learning disorder.  Yikes!

Of course, the world was not quick to accept such a hypothesis (especially left-handed people).  So, studies continue to be done.

The most recent study (17 March 2008) is good news for anyone who writes with their left hand.  This new study comes out of the Department of Neurology at the University of Münster in Germany.

The study of 100 people showed no significant difference between leftys and rightys.  Not only that, the research team checked out 5 other studies that were related, and the results were the same.

So, whatever hand you use the most, you seem to be equally likely to have migraine.
